A Significant Message

by David Anderson

An unusual experience happened to me recently which I felt was worth sharing more widely. To provide some background I am a theoretical physicist by training and work in a high technology industry - very left brain stuff! I began to get involved in spiritual development about two years ago while working in Lancaster. I was rather "up tight" at the time and my wife spotted an evening class at the local college advertising meditation as a good way of relieving stress. I found the course really beneficial and it started me on a path which has given me much pleasure (and some pain). This led on to an interest in spiritual healing and I am now a probationary member of the NFSH. I don’t exactly know what is happening in Healing and what energies are involved but I know something real is going on and it does seem to work.

We moved to Gloucestershire about 18 months ago and I have continued to deepen my spiritual practice. It has become a very important part of my life, which I try to bring into my work environment in a very quiet way, with some limited success. As part of this I recently attended a Workshop on the Chakras which took place in a beautiful old mansion in Bath and was led by Daphne Johnson. This was a wonderful three days in which we went through each of the Chakras in turn talking about the symbolic significance of each and the links to emotional and other issues. We also did some powerful meditations accompanied by the associated sounds and chants. The only slight worry I had was that at the end of the course my Chakras were still spinning in the wrong direction!

As part of the exercises on the last day we tried channelling, seated in a semicircle with wonderful pictures of the ascended masters in front of us. We had a period of meditation but then, while seeking to maintain that elevated state of consciousness, we picked up pen and paper and waited for any messages which might come through. I must admit to feeling it all a bit odd, and can remember thinking that I was going to feel inadequate because I wasn’t going to get anything and I am too honest to make something up.

But then an odd thing happened. I just started to write and produced a very interesting and somewhat eloquent passage. I am reasonable at writing English but I normally require at least three attempts before I am happy with what I have produced. But this just flowed without any conscious effort and not only was it legible, which my handwriting isn’t normally, but it made sense. I have felt no need or desire to change one word. Here it is:

"The story of the world is written in seven great books. They are revealed to mankind at the appropriate time when sufficient are ready to receive. In the present time the first four books have been revealed although only the first three have been absorbed into the collective unconscious. The time is coming when the fifth great book is about to be made available. This represents a very significant step on the path. We are taking a great risk in bringing this book into awareness at the present time but it is a risk which must be taken if we are to achieve our goals for mankind.

You have a role to play in the understanding and dissemination of this wisdom. But it will not be an easy path and we will understand and accept if you decide not to take up this challenge. But we sincerely hope that you will because the wonders it will reveal to you and the ones you love will be worth the pain and suffering which you will need to face. We will be there with you at all times and you will not be asked to face anything you are not capable of dealing with."

I have thought a lot since the experience about its nature and meaning. I have read a lot of Jung and am beginning to understand a bit more about the psyche, the unconscious and the symbology of dreams. Generally these are full of symbols and are pretty chaotic and, on the face of it, rather illogical. The passage I wrote down was qualitatively different to this, highly specific and directive. So I don’t think it came from my unconscious in the way that dreams do. Certainly it wasn’t in my conscious mind in the way these words are forming and in which I have to stop and think periodically to decide what I want to say.

It could be my superconscious or "higher self" because the message is certainly not inconsistent with the views I have been forming about the world and what I might do in it. And I have certainly read a lot of books which appear to be on a similar theme. It does have echoes of what I remember about The Celestine Prophecy which I read some years ago (and, incidentally didn’t get a lot out of at the time). Maybe it has all been simmering away inside and chose this particular moment to pop out. All I can say is that I have not been consciously aware of the process and that in itself is interesting. But, again, my experience of communications from my "higher self" or "conscience" has been qualitatively different. I sometimes (but not often) get answers to questions posed in meditation which make good sense and certainly my conscience does sometimes prick me if I am about to embark on an inappropriate course of action. But it is normally reactive and I have not so far experienced it actually telling me things like this. It also doesn’t normally use the pronoun "we" but maybe there is more than one and they are ganging up on me!

So I am led to the conclusion that either it is my "higher self/selves" taking a much more proactive role from a position of greater understanding or it does come from outside what I perceive to be the essential "I", whatever that is. The use of "we" and the phraseology implies some sort of group at a higher level than mankind who have a beneficial interest in our destiny and are actually quire concerned about the situation in the world at the present time.

So what might it mean both at a general level and specifically for me?

A possible interpretation popped into my head while meditating a few days after the course. I have developed the ideas by conscious thought but the basic premise just emerged. It does seem to hang together.

I think that the reference to Books is a metaphor for the transmission of knowledge into human minds at particular critical points in history. The seven books can be linked to the seven Chakras (after all I was on a Chakra Workshop). The first four books can therefore be seen as.

Book 1. Base Chakra. Survival, animal instincts. The information that allowed man to survive and thrive in the early hostile environment. The reason why man and not some other species prospered.

Book 2. Sacral Chakra. Creativity, sexuality. The knowledge that allowed us to form close relationships, to specialise, to develop language and hence to think about our environment instead of just living in it as the animals do.

Book 3. Solar Plexus Chakra. The will, power, ability to take action and make things happen. Building on the first two books, allowing us to begin to "control" the environment.

Book 4. Heart Chakra. Opening the heart, unconditional love for each other and the world. The teachings of all the great spiritual leaders including Jesus and Buddha.

The first three have been fully absorbed into the human psyche - they are "second nature". But, just as in the message, the wisdom of the fourth book, despite being around for well over two thousand years, has not been so absorbed. Although the world is a beautiful place with many good people in it and a lot of love, the sad fact is that fear, violence, hate and lack of care for the environment is still very prevalent. The messages of the great spiritual leaders, although they attract great followings, are still not lived by most of us. At the same time the gift of the first three books has given us the power to significantly alter the environment on a global scale and ultimately to destroy the world and ourselves if things go wrong.

Perhaps that is where we have diverged from the master plan. Maybe we were not meant to reach this level of knowledge until we had the wisdom of the heart so as to be able to use it wisely. We could make this world a wonderful place for all if we collectively wanted to but we don’t because not enough of us have really opened our hearts to love.

So what is the fifth book that is almost ready to be brought into awareness? Well, following the theme, it would correspond to the Throat Chakra - communication and "speaking our truth". I wonder if this is the next big step. The opening of true communication of thoughts and emotions, perhaps transcending the need for words which can communicate but also deceive. What a profound effect it would have on society if we all communicated what we really felt as opposed to what we think people want to hear, if we really knew what people thought and what their true motives were and they knew ours. Just think about the effect that this would have. I can see that it would be a great risk because it could tear society apart as well as bringing it together in a very profound way, but possibly things really are that desperate that the chance has to be taken. It would bring real challenges and pain but offers the potential of enormous benefits to mankind.

I do feel that the personal bit could be quite significant for me. I do have a gift for communication and talking to large groups developed in my working life. Maybe I have to come off the fence and start talking to my colleagues and others about these sorts of ideas that up until now I have kept quiet about because of the risk of misunderstanding and possible ridicule that this might bring. It looks as though I will be given a choice but I have to say that I do like a challenge and possibly this article is a small first step.

I am sure that if this message has come from outside then it will not have been directed just to me. Experience suggests that these sorts of ideas appear in many places and to many people at around the same time - synchronicity. I would be really pleased to hear from anyone who has received similar messages or indeed has any views on what I have written.
